I made this tree from metal threads and plastic pearls at school when I was a child, yet unaware of its later significance. During the Axolotl album creation process, I discovered the tree again by accident and it was immediately clear that this would be the album cover. It is a metaphor for my own personal and artistic evolution from my former artistic alter ego, Blake Day, to my new and true authentic self under my real name, Michael Achim; but it is also a symbol for everybody's growth and evolution.

Moriturus te salutat contains a selection of 58 poems that have been written over the course of 12 years. Some are supplemented with scans of original manuscripts, drawings or background information illustrating the creative process.
The protagonists - some of whom are partly autobiographical - speak of hope, love and death, get drunk with Nietzsche, take a swim with the Loch Ness monster, queue up for the abattoir, find their way back to their Happy Place, get raped by the devil, sail on a river of baby tears, take themselves to the dry cleaner, stomp sorrow back in the ground, compare being in love to being addicted to drugs, or wonder if they have been nailed to the cross or if they're still carrying it.
This book is a showcase of the imagination and the soul, with a philosophical essay on 'God', creativity, and the duality of joy and pain.
132 pages, A5, Paperback / Hardback (depending on availability)

The Garden
Oh ease of living, where have you gone?
Have I not honoured you enough?
Like a fully-blown pneumonia
that started as an innocent little cough.
Have I not seen the warnings
that were laid out for me like signs;
that guided me into this spider web,
entangled and entwined.
Where day is night and morn is dusk
and tears fall down like rain.
Where sorrow is our daily bread
and fear is the grain.
We’ve been hanging here for quite a while
but our journey does not end here.
You, my weary head, are a most stubborn beast
born to go on and persevere.
And you, my weary heart, you too
shall see the dawn after the night;
the shores that seemed so distant
after they got out of sight.
So trust in joy and trust in pain.
Trust in everything you’ve seen.
From the highest highs to the lowest lows
and everything in between.
The garden where you used to play
and hide and seek and swing
may look a bit untended now
but the birds in it still sing.
The gate, it will still open,
even with a little bit of rust.
The handle may be dusty
but it’s been waiting for your touch.
So go ahead and enter
into that place you know so well.
Forever you shall remember
and forever you shall play.
